Professor Saudan Singh, joined the Uttarakhad Ayuved University on 17th Dec 2016. Before assuming the charge of Vice Chancellor of Uttarakhad Ayuved University Dr. Saudan Singh was serving as Director, National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Govt. of India.
Dr Saudan Singh has excellent academic record and vast administrative teaching, training and research experience in the field of medical education.
He completed his M.B.B.S. degree from B.R.D. Medical College, Gorakhpur & MD in Community Medicine from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He completed his Ph.D. from Department of Public Health, Osaka University Medical School, Japan.
With over 31 years of administrative and academic experience Dr Saudan Singh has served at various prestigious positions like Director General of Medical Education & Training, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, Director, Rural Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Saifai U.P., Principal, S. N. Medical College Agra, Principal, B.R.D Medical College, Gorakhpur and Head of Department Community Medicine at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) & Safdarjung Hospital.
As the Director General of Medical Education & Training, Uttar Pradesh he had made significant contributions in the field of medical education.After 40 years in the history of Uttar Pradesh, new medical colleges were established with intake of 100 MBBS/year in each medical college viz Rural Institute of Medical Sciences Saifai Etawah, Mahamaya Medical College Ambedkar Nagar,Tanda and Government medical college Kannauj. B.R.D. Medical College Gorakhpur and Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College, Jhansi, got recognition after sixteen years. The MBBS intake was also increased from 50 to 100 students in both these colleges. Post Graduate seats were enhanced. Majority of unrecognized PG seats of MD/MS got recognised.
He was the Principal B R D Medical College Gorakhpur in year 2005. The biggest epidemic of Japanese Encephalitis occurred in Eastern part of Uttar Pradesh during that period. Record number of Japanese Encephalitis patients came to B.R.D. Medical College from neighboring districts, the state of Bihar and Nepal. There was outstanding contribution in management of patient care, prevention and control of Japanese Encephalitis.
He established the Department of Community Medicine with excellent facilities for Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching, training, research and patient care at the Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, New Delhi. He has published and presented more than hundred research papers in National and International Journals and presented papers in National and International conferences. He has supervised many postgraduates and PhD students as Chief guide/Co-guide.
Prof. Saudan Singh served as Chairman & Advisor of many committees of repute like In UPSC, New Delhi and Chairman/Member Selection Committees in various Institutes/Medical Colleges, Member, Technical Advisory Committee of Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, Department of Science & Technology for S & T Communication on “I - STEM Demonstration” [Innovation and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Demonstration] since August 17, 2012.
He was nominated as Nodal Officer by Government of India Ministry of health & Family welfare, Directorate General of Health Services Nirman Bhawan to provide technical inputs sought by the Empowered Committee under the North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP), 2007. Many times invited by UPSC as advisor for the selection of Medical officers through combined medical services and recruitment of faculty positions for Preventive & Social Medicine/Community Medicine.
Prof Saudan Singh in his illustrious career spanning 40 year has received several fellowships, prominent among them are Colombo Plan Fellowship for Training Course in HIV/AIDS Control Plan, Sponsored by Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) from 11.11.96 to 12.12.96, the prestigious JSPS (RONPAKU) Fellowship for five years to conduct research (Fellowship was awarded by Japan Society for Promotion of Science within the frame work of India Japan Research Co-Operation under Govt. of India, Ministry of Science & Technology and Govt. of Japan) and worked there as Visiting Professor. Nominated as National Trainer by National AIDS Control Organization, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India to train Master Trainers all over country for prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in India.
He is a Life member of various professional bodies like Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM),Indian Public Health Association (IPHA) and Indian Association for Malaria and other Communicable diseases.
